"I love these old-school hotels reminiscent of an age gone by. Elegant and beautifully appointed it's everything a chain hotel is not. One small detail I like is the elevators are quick. The breakfast buffett is reasonable and the dining area is beautiful. Rooms are comfy and there are some good dining options within easy walking distance. Staunton and 24 South are among my favorite places to stay when I'm in the area. "

"It's not really the owner's fault at all but the place is built on a rather treacherous bit of mountainside in the Shenandoah. The website doesn't really give much warning about this and there isn't any sort of guardrails. There is a hell of a 'pucker factor' getting to and from the location as it's just one lane. But once you get there- My GOSH! So beautiful-- so inviting.. and so, so so sooo cozy! Makes it all worthwhile!! As I said before, unless a millionaire wants to donate $$$$$$...
