"Hung up in unbelievable traffic in Santa Cruz, I was not able to check into the hotel until 7 AM the next day when they reopened. So I don't have the overnight experience one expects. That said, the room was very clean, the shower had good hot water, and I did get a morning nap on the bed. Fort7nately, it is off the road a bit. But noise carries and young Costa Ricans love their motorcycles. So if you are super noise sensitive that might bother you, but the traffic is really light on that...

CC Beach Front Papagayo All Inclusive

10/10 Excellent

"This resort was a pleasant surprise. My husband selected the hotel & I was not excited about having one restaurant on the property. All I can say is WOW!! The menu changed every evening (Italian, Caribbean, Mexican) , the protein was prepared fresh upon request. Typically you had the choice of beef, chicken, fresh fish or pork. The breakfast had an omelet chef, fantastic fruit/pastries & AMAZING coffee. The hotel was a small boutique hotel. The pools were well maintained, staff was constantly asking if there was anything they could do, making sure the grounds were spotless. The concierge arranged a private fishing charter that picked us up right on the beach in front of the resort. The beach was soft sand & waters calm enough to hang out in. We'd definitely come back."

"Resort was well-maintained and the common areas were very clean. I wouldn't recommend the beach as it's a small area and filled with trees. The food overall wasn't bad, but the buffet got repetitive and could have used a little more variety. Individual restaurants are the best option for dinners, though I do feel that paper menus vs. QR codes are preferable. I'm not a fan of trying to zoom on my phone to read a menu. They get you set up with the app for maps and reservations, but it is difficult to navigate and the maps are very confusing. I also found many discrepancies with the activity schedule and often had to check the local boards to get the up-to-date information on daily activities and evening show. While I do feel that the Star plan was worth the extra cost just for the private pool area alone, I also think that more thought should go into the Green Room (always empty and very little to offer) as well as the information you get from the Concierge/Butler. I would get reminders about my daily restaurant reservation, but more often than not, they were incorrect about the time of my reservation, which really confused me. Our Concierge/Butler greeted us after check-in and we asked for several items to start our trip, but never heard about them again and ultimately had to fend for ourselves."

"Overall the stay was okay. The hotel has nice views and was very relaxing. Not much for activites or nightlife. They overcharge on the excursions and the souvenirs and the a la carte was always fully booked so I didn't get a chance to eat there, only at the buffet but the buffet food was good. The check in process was slow and people will cut in front of you even though you were there first waiting. You definitely have to lock up your stuff in the safe because I had a coach purse that was stolen from my suitcase and I had a chocolate bar that someone took a bite from. That was a little upsetting."

Hotel Riu Palace Costa Rica - All Inclusive

8/10 Good

"I stayed at the Riu Palace. The rooms were terrible. Outdated, stains on the walls, paint chipping on tables, old moldy smells, and filled with bugs. The bugs come from being in the mountains and surrounded by many trees. Unbeknownst to me they are closing this location for renovations September 1, 2026. I think they will reopen next year after March sometime. Wait until then to plan a visit. Other than the room, the resort is nice. Other areas are well maintained. The staff are exceptional. The food is decent. Really liked the steakhouse. They had amazing sunset views. They could plan out more evening / night time activities. I was given a free room upgrade that was a bit better than original room. Overall we had a nice time but wouldn’t stay here again."
