"A lovely cosey place to stay if you are visiting the Snow Monkey Park. We walked from the ryokan to the park, it took about 30 minutes to the gate and I am a slow walker. A nice town to wander around if you have the time. "

"A fantastic traditional ryokan within steps of the Zenkoji Temple. The owners and staff were delightful and we felt as though we were living in a family home. We stayed in room 16 on half board and are so glad we did. There are plenty of places to eat in the area but the food we were served in the ryokan were as good as anything we ate in 3 weeks in Japan. Nagano is a lovely town and a welcome change from Tokyo. Don’t forget to visit the Snow Monkeys - the highlight of our trip. "

"Our stay started off well with a shuttle pick up from the station. The traditional look and style of the Yorozuya is beautiful. My husband and I booked the private spa for 2 hours our first night and it only cost $100 for us both to use. The private spa was absolutely amazing and even though it was modern compared to everything else, I loved that it was a private all inclusive experience that my husband and I could enjoy the baths and sauna together at our leisure. They provide drinks inside too...

"Amazing stay at Shimaya. The owners, as mentioned in other reviews are outstanding. Gave us a ride to the Snow Monkeys and were very helpful. The breakfast (¥700) was simple and quick - toast, fruit, yoghurt, coffee and juice! Onsen was clean and great. We were on the fourth floor and the views were unreal. Will for sure be returning in the winter! "

"There are no private showers at this property. This may not be an issue for most people, but I read a misleading review which made me book this property thinking there were private showers and that is NOT the case. The shower is a combined 4 person shower and tub you can soak in afterwards. The breakfast was amazing and I highly recommend it if you have the option. "Was just what it said it was, easy access to little food joints and short walk to train station made this a great choice for me. Just one night, then onto Hakuba Ski valley on a bus nearby. Just an hour or so was walking to the slopes "
