Authentic minshuku experience. Traditional room with futons on floor, sliding doors and tatami mats. The hostess was very friendly and had basic English phrases written down to help communication. The food was incredible and plentiful. Wonderful outdoor onsen (mens and womens separately).

A lovely cosey place to stay if you are visiting the Snow Monkey Park. We walked from the ryokan to the park, it took about 30 minutes to the gate and I am a slow walker. A nice town to wander around if you have the time.

This ryokan was excellent. Best night sleep ever. The Onsen was great. We went later in the evening so had the onsen to ourselves. The host/owner was the sweetest lady. We ordered dinner a bit late but she accommodated us an. They offer a ride to the monkey park entrance. They have all the bus details posted in the entrance. Couldn’t ask for a better host.

A lovely stay in a traditional Japanese property. The hosts were so welcoming and helpful. They helped us get to the Snow Monkey Park the next morning and gave us advice on onward travel. The onsen onsite was a peaceful and relaxing way to end the the night. We stayed with half board - the meals were delicious!!

Minshuku Miyama is a medium walk from Shiba Onsen Main Street. you can get there from Nagano Station and catch the local line to Yudanaka and a short bus trip drops you right outside- mention the place and the driver will know where to stop. The husband and wife owners are friendly and kind, welcoming us like family. They do not speak English but you will have a great time. Trad breakfast is provided and you can eat in for the evening meal at and extra cost. The food was delicious and plentiful. There are male and female outdoor onsen (included). It is a 20-25 minute walk the the Snow Monkey Park that would be great to do in winter (bring shoes for shloshy pathways) We stayed in mid November 2023 - plenty of monkeys and a few bathing but to see this at its best winter would be the best time when there is plenty of snow. In and around Shiba Onsen can be pretty quite especially on the weekends. Well worth the trip.

Beautiful minshuku within walking distance to Shibu onsen Main Street. The staff are friendly and kind, welcoming us like family. Food was delicious and plentiful. The star of the stay was the absolutely amazing outdoor onsen! Would be better if the room has blackout curtains but that is a small quibble

Aside from the lovely hosts, the best thing about this place is proximity to the Snow Money Park, which is INCREDIBLE! There are a few good places to eat within walking distance, Enza at the park entrance is fantastic, and we also loved Farmhouse brew pub. As for the actual lodging, it's great. The hosts are the sweetest people in the world, very accommodating. I had the Japanese breakfast each morning and it was stellar. I also had the onsen to myself for an hour or so each night. Lovely facility. The rooms themselves are comfortable enough, small and tidy, very basic, but for the price, it really can't be beat. One of my favorite stays in Japan. Thank you!!! Tip: get the Snow Monkey Pass for unlimited transport from the prefecture to Nagano. You can take either the bus directly to the reserve, or take a train and then a bus to the Minshuku, all included for the price of the pass, and as many times as you want. It's a rustic area so if you're staying more than a day or so, you may want to make a day trip into Nagano. The pass is good for two days for about 3600 yen, which is the same price as one round trip bus or train ride, and it includes park admission. Just be sure to ever the first date of use correctly when purchasing online. They will not honor it at the train station any other day. I put the day we were going to the park and not the first transport date and they would not exchange it.

It's a lovely little place, with the most hospitable owners ever! The best thing about this place is the onsen - you MUST give it a go. It's absolutely beautiful! The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay! The only negative about this hotel is the distance from the station. Definitely not walking distance, but the owners will offer to drive you to the station on the way back.

Best place I’ve ever stayed in Japan! The hosts showed us true Japanese “omotenashi” hospitality and catered to our every need. I couldn’t believe how beautiful the place was!! The host picked us up from the station, cooked us dinner, drove us to the monkey park and drove us back to the station! I’ve never felt so taken care of before. The hot spring in the hotel was so lovely and relaxing too. Highly recommended!!!!!

I had absolutely no preconceptions about this guesthouse before i booked my trip to Nagano. I wanted to stay for one night somewhere near the Monkey Park that was reasonably priced. I was absolutely blown away by the warm and joyful welcome received from the owner of this truly traditional Japanese guest house and onsen. The owners made every effort, even though our languages didnt match up, to make me feel truly welcome, they even drove me to the monkey park and the next day drove me to my train station when leaving afer a memorable traditional breakfast. I can't recommend this experience enough.
