It was a good cost effective place to stay while waiting to transfer to our booked resort. It is in walking distance to accessible beaches, shopping, and entertainment. If you do not want an all inclusive resort, but want an affordable place to stay for a holiday and just need a place to put your head at night, this might be your place. There are no safes to keep valuables in the room and the doors to the rooms are not the most secure.

Motel like style in the US. Good clean rooms. Not so great clean outdoors furnishings. Good for 1 or 2 nites if you're only want to sleep. Poor breakfeast experience. Some hostels are better. Overwall did what I wanted, 1 nite stay, convinient location, cheap. Cant take coffe mug to room. You get what u pay, dont expect much, but works for some. It did for me. 5 star to cleaning lady and the male staff member front desk. Good stay if you dont mind the above.

A tile fell off the shower wall as I was bathing. Scared the crap out of me because it was rather big. I had to gingerly pick up the pieces so I wouldn't cut my foot stepping out of the shower. Management didn't seem too concerned when I told them. Bed was hard. Wifi was nonexistent in my room. A/c worked great & the pool was nice

Balam Playa is a basic hotel, as expected. The hotel is kept very clean and it was quiet. Most of the staff were friendly and accommodating. Location great. The furnishings were old and uncomfortable, and in some cases in bad repair. The pool is small but well tended. The pool furnishings, especially the lounge chairs, were in rough shape with old torn cushions - not really usable. The room itself was ok. The beds were super hard and one had a spring sticking up in the middle. The built in bedside tables were ok but the bottom shelf on one was broken and unusable. The bathroom was functional. The shower was the worst. Broken shower door with chunks of glass missing, the tracks didn't work properly and difficult to move. The water was very undependable. Very low/slow pressure, took several minutes for the hot water to get there, but when it did, it got super hot (difficult to control temperature - either super hot or cold). The last day, there was no hot water at 8 am. In fact, the hot water was just cutoff and no water came out at all. We had one issue with a blown lightbulb in the bathroom, and staff very quickly replaced the bulb, for which we were thankful. One staff member got very angry with me for borrowing two glasses from the kitchen (there were none in the rooms). The amenities in the room were limited - extas included a bar-sized fridge, tv (your own streaming accounts req'd), air conditiong and ceiling fan. No extras in bath. Wifi worked well

Staff was hit or miss. The morning shift front desk was not friendly, however, Gabby the cleaning staff was very kind and greeted me by name every day. Alejandro, the afternoon front desk worker was great and friendly. The mattress was old and very uncomfortable and the bathroom was also very old. The shower leaked and sprayed everywhere when turned on. The noise level from the street echoed through the main corridoro on the first floor. I would not stay here again.

One of the rooms was unclean, with blood on the bed, walls, and doorknob. The staff claimed it was likely paint, but it didn't look like paint. There was broken glass on the floor (not safe for our kid), and the staff refused to inspect it or replace the room. We were relocated to another room for just one night, but we'll have to return the next evening. Deciding that the hotel didn't seem safe, we checked out and searched for another hotel. I won't recommend this hotel to others.
