"Pros: This space seemed brand new, everything was spotless, the bed was comfortable, Melinda at the desk was super nice and helpful, the refrigerator was large, lots of counter space, lots of windows, the space was really nice and open, it felt like a great value. "Room was spotless. Views are breathtaking. My only complaint is that the staff is not as attentive as I would like. For instance to get a ride to our room when it was 28 degrees outside would take some time. The resort was not full at all and multiple occasions it was just me and my husband waiting. Otherwise I will be back "

Directly outside the monument proper sits the uncovered remains of a pit dwelling originally constructed in 1850. The dwelling would have been covered inside an oblate oval "cocoon" of mud and clay supported by beams and poles situated in the holes you see here. It would have been a relatively comfortable dwelling in all seasons. With a single opening for a door, the coolness of the interior would have been maintained during the hot summer. In the winter, a fire pit directly under the only opening in the roof would have provided enough heat (with the door closed off by leather or cloth) to keep the inhabitants warm and dry.
