"Beautiful location, helpful staff, wonderful food"

"The Fujiya reeks of history and elegance. The rooms are very spacious. The ambiance is sublime. We are so pleased we stayed at this hotel. The staff and quality of service was excellent. The sauna and spa facilities were 1st class. A couple of minor issues - the beds were a touch on the firm side. And the range of choice for breakfast was limited. However, in every other respect, the Fujiya will be a highlight of our time in Japan."

"Really great furnishings. We enjoyed the indoor onsen, which was already on for us at the right temperature when we arrived. The property has a manual in English which allowed us to understand how to operate all of the major appliances like the microwave oven and the washer / dryer. The check-in process was the most involved of any property we stayed in in Japan."

"Absolutely delightful hotel: helpful staff, clean, comfortable, huge room, wonderful food, free tea/coffee/alcohol whenever you like, japanese robe and towels included. The private onsen was so lovely - don’t be fooled by the photos, it was clean as a whistle, just stained by the minerals in the water. Absolutely enormous amount of all sorts of strange and delicious food for both dinner and breakfast. I’m staying in hostels pretty much every night of my holiday in Japan but wanted to spend one night having an affordable ryokan experience: this place was by far the cheapest in the Hakone area but I can’t see how it could have been better. Adding be put off by its location, it’s a short very easy bus ride from Lake Biwa; it’s also right next door to a 24 hour convenience store. "
