"A nice splurge for our trip. We did the half board...breakfast and dinner which turned out what we needed as there weren't restaurants near by. Felt high end and traditional so a nice experience but our Western pallet was ready to move on. 2 nights was perfect. Loved the private bath on our balcony."

"Mind blowing. Nicest hotel room we have ever stayed in. We stayed atop in room 405, and we had 3.5 private onsens (one inddor hot, one outdoor hot, one indoor cold, and one outdoor foot bath) plus a sauna. And a kitchen w/ bbq. And a projector. And the largest TV I have ever seen. ANd.... Just magical. Can stay here without a car too: just use bus/train. Roads are dangerous, so find the hidden paths if you can (e.g., there is a super charming path hidden behind the nearby train station to across the street from the hotel, that is even lit up at night). A pleasant walk to the Hakone Open Air Museum (~20 min or so) and the Ropeway. So good, so good...."

"The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the family suite allowed us to stay together. However, the staff was not flexible about our advance request to exclude pork and pork derived ingredients from breakfast and dinner because we did not reply to their follow up email that we never received. Our original request was clear but no alternative was offered upon arrival. The spa massages were underwhelming, and the private onsen could accommodate only two people despite the suite being designed for approximately four guests. Given the cost of over $1,000 for one night, excluding the spa, we questioned the value."

"This place is insanely atmospheric. Every little detail was tended to and the place felt lived in and familiar not stuffy. Their dinner was very adventurous for our group but we could have specified fewer things. The kindest staff ever. And a tattoo friendly onsen!"

"Extended our stay for a second night! Just perfect. Perfect perfect food, perfect access to Hakone loop, perfectly helpful staff. This was the most relaxing experience we’ve had in Japan and with the best staff imaginable. This place is a must see and must stay! Also, the robe and slippers were by far the most comfortable we’ve encountered"
