Amazing place. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, surrounded by beautiful nature, which made it the perfect getaway from the busy city.
The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and traditional, which made the stay feel authentic and special. The onsen was one of the highlights — very clean, relaxing, and not too crowded. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring Hakone.
Would stay again. Staff were very kind to us despite being English-speaking tourists, lovely view of the valley, and strong Japanese vibes throughout the property. Price was right too. Only off putting part was the interesting walk from the train station.
Absolutely loved my stay here - quiet and serene with beautiful mountain views. The onsens were incredible and often empty because of how small the hotel is. Great service and facilities!

Very clean and spacious room. A traditional Japanese feel to it! The amenities were great. They had most things you might need, including Yukatas. This together with the onsen bath made this a very relaxing stay. Finally, the staff was lovely and very helpful!
We absolutely loved our stay at Hakone Suisen. The location is fantastic — peaceful, beautiful, and perfectly placed for exploring Hakone.
The atmosphere feels truly magical and relaxing from the moment you arrive. The staff were so welcoming and kind, which made the experience even more special.
Our room was beautiful, comfortable, and very well kept. We felt completely at ease the entire time.
This was one of the highlights of our trip and we would happily stay again. Highly recommend!
Clean, quiet, beautiful property in the mountains. It’s more of a spa-hotel, So not super convenient for us (we needed a place to sleep and a shower). Did not relize that our room had as bathroom but no shower, but the staff was super helpful and offered a room for a moderate fee, Would. Inlikwses
This hotel was a very nice place to stay. It was very calm and clean and the stuff was very friendly. It was also very affordable for a beautiful room.
I really loved this hotel. There are 2 onsen - one indoor (which I found a bit hot) and on outdoor, which was the perfect temperature and which I loved. They provide really lovely amenities - bath products, moisturizer, tea pot and tea. It felt quite luxurious I only cooked in the kitchen once - just the frozen pizza that they sell. It was very clean and well stocked, I just find a grocery store in the places I was in. They serve breakfast each morning, which is basically tea, coffee, juice, and a variety of pastries. There are lovely places to sit to relax or read. It’s a very comfortable hotel and is quite near the ohiridai train station or bus stop for travel into Gora or Hakone Yumoto. However, if like me, you return tired after a long day and don’t feel like taking any more transit, there is really nothing within walking distance. There are frozen meals and a variety of snacks for sale, however.
Ryokan was very unique for a first timer like me. Staff were very polite and helpful, and could speak good English which was a big help! Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in a Ryokan for the first time.
Suisen was our #1 favorite stay during our 11-night trip in Japan. We spent 2 nights but wished for more. With a dozen rooms, it feels like a cozy B&B run by friends who’ve put thought into everything. The rooms/amenities are very clean, breakfasts simple (with delicious bread), and nighttime snacks prepared with care. Staff dress in black branded tshirts and know your faces, hospitality is next level from orientation to checkout, and you can tell the lounge areas have been curated with someone’s personal touch and artful preferences. The single outdoor onsen (for each gender) is great, but we loved the indoor one even more, especially since the windows open. Suisen was the perfect tatami stay after long days exploring Hakone navigating crowds and surfing on buses “meandering” through the mountain roads.
Compare Suisen to another natural onsen we stayed at later. With 450+ rooms, the other place was run like a resort/cruise ship operation. You’re one family in a sea of others, compete for massage chairs/showers, and wait in line to eat. The staff are dressed in fuller uniforms and run around serving all guests. But you get complete breakfast buffets and more baths, pools, and lockers.
Along the loop, there are clusters of these resorts; the buses stop right at them. But for Suisen, you have to walk what many would consider to be a narrower-than-average sidewalk. Suisen is more tucked away.
It depends on the vibe you want. For us, Suisen was our perfect Mt. Fuji getaway!
Loved the lounge, interesting books and records and artwork, friendly and helpful staff, clean. Great hot baths, quiet and relaxing.

The hotel was very clean and tidy, slippers were provided upon entry into lobby so no outside shoes throughout the hotel. The hotel staff were super friendly and helpful, providing all information about the amenities during check-in. They also provided a flashlight when I went out at night, which I thought was a very nice personal touch.
If you're looking to get away to quiet serenity then this is a lovely place. It is removed from easy access to activities in the area, other than the outdoor sculpture park, which is EXTREMELY worth a visit, but it was a beautiful location to spend a peaceful break in the midst of the big cities on our itinerary.
