Gaze up at the god of the sea and attend one of the free series of concerts in this open-air arena.

Neptune’s Park is a dynamic outdoor venue overlooking the ocean and the main boardwalk of Virginia Beach. It is known for its Symphony by the Sea Concert Series as well as a range of eclectic musical acts. People-watch in this lively and airy arena, which is one of Virginia Beach’s main gathering points.

Gaze up at the large bronze King Neptune statue, a sculpted portrayal of the mythological god with chiseled muscles. The figure is 34 feet (10 meters) tall and is surrounded by dolphins, lobsters and a range of aquatic creatures. Notice that he holds a turtle in one hand and a three-pronged spear or trident in the other. Marvel at the sheer size of this iconic statue, which towers over passersby.

Attend one of the many free concerts that take place here in summer. The venue has welcomed many diverse acts, including the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and alternative rock bands. Use the available seating or bring your own lawn chairs.

Leading up to the winter holidays, the venue is known for its lofty, ornate Christmas Tree. Relax on a bench, with the tree and fire pits serving as a cozy backdrop.

Walk along the boulevard and head to the shops in the busy 31 Ocean district. Cycle along the Oceanfront Bike Path and enjoy the excellent vistas of the ocean and the surrounding parkland. Stay cool on hot summer days with a trip to the beach and remain until sunset for exceptional views.

Note that the Symphony by the Sea Concert Series is open to the public with no admittance charge. The shows usually begin in the early evening and take place on select Thursdays between July and September. Watch for other live entertainment on many weekends.

Neptune’s Park is a little north of the central beach area of the city. Take a bus to the avenue parallel to the oceanfront boardwalk and walk a short distance to the park. Visit nearby attractions, including the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, the Naval Aviation Monument Park and 24th Street Park.
