"Rustic charm just a few minutes from volcanoes. Be aware that there is no a/c. My room had a dehumidifier that was loud and ran hot, making me think the heat was on in my room. It was also rather loud and I was grateful that it shut off around 8pm"

"A nice, large apartment with a full sized stove/oven and frig (which can get noisy cycling at night). All the amenities of home (except a dishwasher). A large, covered lanai and easy parking. Plus an ecletic bookshelf. Convenient locatino to town and Kilauea. Quiet neighborhood."

No restaurants in Pahala however a nice 7 mile drive to the town of Naalehu takes care of this matter.

It is a quiet, small town in a beautiful spot that exemplifies a different time on Hawaii. That does cut both ways a bit, though, of course, don't come out expecting bright lights and show tunes.
