No matter where you’re coming from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you’ve prepared well enough. We’ve made a list of essential travel tips that will get your Kyoto escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- It’s easy — first, put in your passport, travel docs, credit cards and vital medications. Next, you’ll want some extra in-flight entertainment to while away the time. A juicy book and a tablet filled with your favorite movies are some fantastic options. If you hope to catch more than just forty winks, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of noise-canceling headphones will also be useful. Finally, find room for a toothbrush and some cleansing wipes so you’ll hop off the plane feeling fresh and raring to go.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by authorities. Sharp or pointed objects, like your precious pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as flares, bleaching agents and strong acids, are also restricted.
What to wear on a flight:
- The key to a comfortable flight often lies in your choice in clothes. Prepare for changes in temperature by layering up. This will keep you nice and warm if the cabin begins to cool down. Shoes like flip flops and heels are best left in your suitcase. Instead, go for flat, closed-toed footwear like slip-ons. Your feet will thank you for it.
- You’ve probably heard about DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clotting condition caused by reduced mobility or inactivity. There’s plenty you can do to lessen your risk. Wear a quality pair of compression socks or tights, stay hydrated and get your legs and feet moving. Do a few laps of the cabin or perform some simple exercises in your seat.
