"Ok, so it’s Lake Placid, aka Fairyland. And in this beautiful town lies a historic hotel that’s trying to get back to the glory days. Threatened with demolition, the new owners picked up the ball so long ago dropped and are doing their best to return it to its former self. First, the service: they will go above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant and trouble-free as possible. The manager actually offered me a ride to a destination about a half mile away. No one does that..except Keith.
Second, the rooms: they are small, but very refined. The bed was exceptionally comfy-firm, the sheets were a dream, and the decor is Art Deco. Also, the TV and the HVAC performed as they should, which is not always the case.
They offer a beautiful art deco commons complete with a coffee bar, a piano, fireplace and jazz. So fun to sit and take it all in.
No place is perfect, so if there was one thing I would change is to offer real cream vs powdered creamer, but I’m sure that will come later.
I highly recommend the St Moritz in an effort to encourage their endeavors to bring a little of the sultry, glamorous past to our overworked and detached world of the 21st century. And yes, it’s AFFORDABLE!!!"
