The Portland Breakwater Light aka Bug Light. located in South Portland, ME near the campus of Southern Maine CC. The light was built in 1875 and represents the 2nd light here. The light was restored in 1989 and reactivated in 2002. The light is part of a beautiful park that overlooks the harbor. This area was once a shipyard used to build Liberty Ships for the war effort durring WW2. This is a great location to come to watch fireworks on July 4th, have a nice walk or have a picnic and watch the ship traffic. Maine Lighthouse Tour: Bug Light. We didn't go visit this one, we were a little lighthoused out by this point but we got a nice view of it from Spring Point Ledge Light anyway. It sits on Bug Park, which is very popular with the kiting clubs and is always filled with huge, crazy, and colorful kites. #Lighthouse

Bug Light extends out into the water and can be accessed by a walkable jetty. Can be windy & chilly at times.Port-O-Pottys are the only available public toilets here.

Built in 1807 this is the last remaining maritime signal tower left in the USA. Local merchants paid the owner a yearly fee and he would watch for the different merchant ships to come into Portland Harbor then would raise the flag of the merchant the ship belonged to so they would know their ship had arrived.
