Macdonald Bear Hotel

Macdonald Bear Hotel

8/10 Good
"Whilst I appreciate that the hotel is a beautiful old building, there are areas which need small things doing that would make the building perfect, such as painting over worn paintwork and replacing worn carpet on the stairs. The service at the hotel was very good. The room was lovely and very old and needed a small amount of repairs to the paint on walls and cracked tiles in the bathroom. The breakfast was just ok. I don't understand in a hotel of this standard why you have to pay an extra £6 for some breakfast items that weren't even anything special. Also the pastries, juices etc weren't replenished regularly so if anyone went for breakfast a bit later there wasn't much to choose from. The hotel is in a great location right in the heart of the village and next to Blenheim Palace."

The Old New Inn

10/10 Excellent
"Wonderful inn in a completely charming town. The room was spacious and comfortable. Great hot water and water pressure. Included breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Everyone was super friendly and helpful The only negative would be the lack of soundproofing. Road noise, footsteps of other guests and even the buzzing of a phone in an adjacent room were a bit distracting. But this is a small negative in a very wonderful stay."

De Vere Cotswold Water Park

8/10 Good
"The hotel is very nice, room clean with a lovely view of the lake. Food and drinks in the bar were very good with a nice atmosphere The spa was very disappointing though as the pool was far too cold and most of the spa type features (jets etc) were not working. Also we mistakenly left an item in the room which the hotel staff told us was not handed in which is again very disappointing when staying at an upmarket hotel."

"We had a two night stay after work on a Friday so didn't arrive until about 7pm. Ross met us and was very helpful and pleasant. We had a free parking space. Hotel is perfect location for sightseeing in Bourton and an easy walk to the Hawkstone brewery. Our room was clean, cosy and comfortable with a plentiful tea tray. Breakfast was good and served in the conservatory. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend to others and we will return."

The Mousetrap Inn

The Mousetrap Inn

8/10 Good
"The breakfast was top class. Freshly cooked to order, a good choice and with superb sausages and bacon on the Full English. And breakfast was served at a sensible time for those of us looking for a leisurely break. We ate here on two evenings and again, the food was excellent. The bar area is cosy, the wine and beer choices suited us to a tee and the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. It is a 5 minute walk into the centre of the village where there are plenty of other choices for food and drink. None of the other pubs we visited though were as good as the Mousetrap for atmosphere or the personal touch. The only slight drawback at the Mousetrap was that the bedroom could do with a little TLC and the bed itself could do with updating. However, it was perfectly adequate and the bar area and standard of food compensated for the slight discomfort in the room. We would stay here again and would recommend it to friends visiting the area."
