Very close to railway station and morning market.

great onsen amenities, but room was smaller than advertised. staff didn't clean the room in 2 days, and charged extra fees for our 4-year-old without clear justifications.

The room is spacious, had two twin bunk beds and double beds. Location is great, across from hotel is Lawson and morning fish market.

We had a really lovely time here, and it was a perfect retreat after the busy atmosphere of Tokyo! The atmosphere of Hakodate is reminiscent of places like the Oregon Coast and Fairbanks, Alaska, that is, a slow-paced town in a cool climate with wonderful museums and historical sites related to indigenous community (in this case, the Ainu and other neighboring cultures) and a strong connection to the sea. The star-shaped Goryokuko was a unique stop we could have explored further. And I should add that the home itself is very comfortable and spacious, perfect for large families or groups of friends. It could be nice for a “stay in” weekend, just hanging out together, sitting on the balcony looking out at the sea. We walked down to the grocery store, about five minutes away along the water, and picked up supplies to cook dinner while we watched anime on the big TV. It was very homey and comfy!

I was arriving in Niigata by ferry, and so I picked this place because it was close to the port. HOWEVER, there are multiple places where ferries dock, and my ferry ended up at a dock farther away. I ended up needing to take a taxi to the hotel. The view is phenomenal and the room was wonderful. The Chinese restaurant was very good. There was also a gift shop that was great. I had a lot of work I needed to do that kept me in the hotel, so I didn't check to see how easy it would have been to get around the city, though I did need another 10-minute taxi to get to the train station. But I really loved the room as one of the best during my travels, and would stay again if I get the chance.

This was a welcome treat to our travels. We were so impressed with all of the staff and the facilities with beautiful art and spacious rooms. The meals were fantastic as well.

The hotel was a bit outdated, but well maintained and clean. Amenities were thoughtful and easy to find. We were invited to help ourselves to combs, hair ties, cotton pads, and extra yukatas to borrow. LThere was a sauna, jet bath, and an outside bath overlooking the ocean(roten buro). Staff were courteous and helpful. I was glad choosing the option including the breakfast, which was amazing, and had a variety of traditional Japanese, American, and dessert foods.
