"We stayed at Oohira hotel in October to use it as a base for hiking. It is perfectly located, near the top end of Zao Onsen, right next to the base of the mountain and the big Zao outdoor onsen. We found it with no issues, and the hotel will pick you up from the bus station if you call in advance. The hosts are extremely helpful, and offer transportation to/from ski rentals, slopes, restaurants, and hot spring/onsen for bathing. The host gave us recommendations for dining and we felt like we were at a 5-star resort with no worries. Very cozey stay for those seeking and enjoyable adventure to Zao Onsen. "Staying here was a great experience. Relaxing in our private onsen while looking out at the mountain and city was stunning. Our other favorite part was the dinner - our server was so amazing with us and compliments to the chef for preparing the delicious food. As foreigners, it was our first time trying some of these foods, and we enjoyed most of it. Thank you!"
