"For this being a 4-star hotel and for the price I paid, it left a lot to be desired. Faux leather furniture had extensive scuff marks. Black mold in the shower area. Found nail clippings on the bedside table. Yellow "gelatinous" gunk inside the mini fridge. Not much of views (I would recommend staying somewhere on Princes Street for spectacular views of the gardes across the street and the Edinburgh Castle). On the positive side, the rooms at the Apex Waterloo are a good size and the location is very convenient to bus/tram stops, Waverly Rail Station, bus station and St. James Quarter. Good variety of restaurants close by if you didn't feel like going into Old Town for dinner after coming back from a tour."

"Unfortunately, though the Ibis hotels as a concept aren’t bad, we had to wade through drunk locals to/from our hotel location. If you’ve a choice, stay at City Centre also, think “minimalist” — it’s affordable for a reason! But overall, you should only be in there to sleep, so it’s all good!"

"Two windows facing Grassmarket do not close, the street noise lasted till 3am. Stand lamp does not work. Sleepers had to be requested and paid. Not enough US charging ports. The floor cracks when walking on it. "

"Excellent location just start of the royal mile, a comfortable hotel with a nice and filling breakfast, a warm and helping staff. A good place to stay if you are in Edinburgh and want to stay in the old town!"

"Great location and value. Very clean and super accommodating staff, but very few amenities. We asked to move rooms because the halls were very loud, walls were thin. We were moved to another building that took a solid five minute internal walk to get to but it was very quiet. NO amenities for standard room. No fridge or water. No smart tvs. Beds were ok. Kind of stiff but not awful. Overall I'm not sure I would stay again but given the price of most other Edinburgh hotels maybe I would."

"Very far away from train terminal and google map location is innacurate. Floor pieces coming off. Not what you’ll expect from a Holiday Inn express, but the staff gave us a different room immediately Also free teas and espresso hot chocolates "
