Relive the action of the American Civil War as you discover Georgia’s rich history, untamed landscapes and traditional cooking styles.

Discover the Civil War history, opulent estates and historic town center of LaGrange. Located in the west of Georgia, LaGrange takes its name from the estate of the Marquis de La Fayette, a French aristocrat who toured the region during the 19th century. See the city’s distinctly French flair, with grand mansions, sprawling manicured gardens and towering statues characterizing the historic center of town. LaGrange acts as a gateway to West Point Lake and offers plenty of outdoor activities to entertain the whole family.

Rent a lakeside cabin to experience nature or stay in the range of accommodation closer to the center of town. In recent years LaGrange’s burgeoning tourism industry has expanded today you’ll find plenty of infrastructure to accommodate your stay.

Join a walking tour to discover local history, architecture and culture. As you walk through the city you’ll learn about the Nancy Harts, the volunteer women’s auxiliary group that defended the city during the American Civil War. Visit the Bellevue Mansion or the Hills & Dales Estate to enjoy sculpted gardens and 19th-century architecture.

Stop by Lafayette Square to see a huge statue of the Marquis de La Fayette. From here you’re just a short walk from the city’s main cultural institutions, including the Legacy Museum on Main, the LaGrange Art Museum and the historic Troup County Courthouse, which is still in use today.

Spend Saturday morning meandering through the local farmers market. This is a great place to pick up fresh produce including Georgia’s famous peaches and pecans. Take your purchases to the lakes that surround the city, where you’ll find picnic and boating facilities. Eat dinner at one of LaGrange’s many barbecue restaurants to try traditional Georgian dishes like fried chicken and barbecue.

LaGrange is well connected by road to the neighboring cities of Atlanta, Columbus and Montgomery, where you’ll find international airports and major transportation hubs. The city has good bus service to most locations as well as plenty of free parking.
