The Bristol Hotel
6/10 Okay
"Room had broken light fitting , cob web ,and stain on the carpet ,about to run a bath and there was someone else hair in the bath and on the wall so as wanted to get ready to go out cleaned it ourselves then run myself a bath gets it and all of a sudden the water is brown scummy and something brown floating around realised it was rust coming of the rusty dirty tap/ water drainer - reported to reception oh sorry and that was it . Pillows are like air not in a good way no good for side sleeper couldn’t sleep for hours then woke up with sore neck , asked for another pillow was told if they can find one we can have one One was left in the room so at least that was sorted ., furniture chipped such a shame as could of stayed elsewhere for much cheaper but it’s where we stayed for our anniversary last time and planned on returning here in the future but I think we will look elsewhere now"
"Let’s start with the hotel itself, it is stunning, tucked away but also walking distance from pretty much everything, the main lobby is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and easy to get to.
The room - It was one of the courtyard rooms, it was spacious, clean, well-appointed and the bed was wonderful, the courtyard is accessible from the room itself through some French doors and very private, it has a good sized TV and the bathroom was wonderful, they give you good quality loo paper (Yes, that’s more important than you think.) Tea and coffee with a coffee machine and the room even had a radio. All in all, 10/10.
The Bar – It is a small personal bar, but there are lounges to relax so plenty of space even though it feels personal, a huge selection of drinks and cocktails to choose from and expertly put together and severed by staff that know what they are doing, we will talk about them soon.
The Restaurant – We had breakfast and 1 evening meal here, and the food was amazing, good quality and cooked to perfection, and excellent range to choose from, good portion sizes and served quickly without being rushed.
The Staff – Well what can I say? The staff were second to none, from the minute we walked throu"
"Hotel isn't old but looks very tired - bathrooms are dark and dingy, furniture in the rooms looks tatty. It might be clean but doesn't look it.
Breakfast is plentiful but poorly cooked - and this isn't just for this stay, but regularly eggs are undercooked, bacon and sausages are undercooked.
It's all just a bit poor!
Wen i started staying here - 10ish years ago it was excellent. Those standards have slipped."
"Not the best start when the fire alarm went off just after we'd arrived. Towels weren't changed until 4 pm. Long wait in restaurant. No sandwiches available on room service."
"Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, and although the bathroom seemed a little worn it was very clean. Breakfast was ok. The rooms we had were an upgrade from the ones we booked, I think. The hotel was situated in a lovely area, with walking available along the river and the canal, and a couple of villages close by, containing decent pubs and restaurants. I would stay there again."
