"Such wonderful hosts and a great location! We had a great time going from onsen to onsen and stopping at the snack bar across the road before retiring for the night. "

"The onsen here is even better than most of the public onsens in the town. The hotel has lots of complimentary amenities like the lounge area with free massage chairs, soft drinks, sweets; foot massage machine. Their Japanese room for a family of 4 is quite spacious with a separate family area and sleeping area. The room also has a private garden. If you get the meals there, you get a private dining room and 10 course meal. Overall, we felt like we got the VIP treatment."
"An excellent, "easy" introduction to a traditional ryokan, with many accomodations for first timers like us. Family made a side trip from Kyoto for something different than the 3 big cities and this inn gave us a wonderful, different experience with excellent service and great food. The kimono and yukata rental was nice added flair, the room very comfortable (NB. no polarized outlets), and the dinner and breakfast fantastic. Even though translation apps had to be used frequently, the service was universally polite, attentive, and, most of all, friendly and helpful. We had a great time!"
"This hotel is gorgeous. The staff are so friendly and helpful and they were so kind and patient with me while I tried speaking in Japanese. I had fell and hurt my ankle, lost my train ticket on way and was charged twice and lost my travel adaptor and they were so kind with me as I was a little stressed. They gave me lots of help and instructions. The hotel facilities are great and the ryokan style rooms are beautiful. I can't recommend this hotel enough. They even had my 2 suitcases taken to the train station with only 1hrs notice for 400¥. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.

"This was the perfect place to stay for a first time visit to a Japanese Onsen town. Excellent location on the river within walking distance of all the included spas, many shops and places to eat. Recommendation from a staff member for great food/good value in 2 blocks. We definitely had our favorites eateries and Onsen, but the whole experience was just lovely and Ichidaya made it so. Most staff very pleasant, helpful and patient with our non-existent Japanese. The room in front was spacious, overlooking the river, and had all the amenities we needed to visit the spas in style.
Only negatives were us mobility challenged seniors not getting access to the room before 3 PM after 3 flights in 24 hours. They were insistent on that, though they did keep bags for us until check-in. Also the slick steep wooden stairs were a challenge and we would’ve preferred a first floor room. But we managed taking care to use the railing, move slowly & get help with luggage. No complaints on the room itself -comfy twin beds, big picture windows and a heated toilet seat with bidet. Everything very clean. Didn’t opt for meals there, but they smelled delicious cooking. Lots of restaurants and shops within five minutes and the view from the ancient stone bridges down the river with the weeping willows was just gorgeous.
About the town, easy walking around, 12 minutes to ropeway or train station, all onsens closer but we couldn’t find breakfast before 9am or dinner after 6pm on Saturday. Hmm."
"The rooms are spacious and have a pretty view of the river though do not opt for the cot if you cannot get a triple
Buffet is generous but does not change so recommend not prebooking food if staying more than one night. For breakfast and dinner it’s decent but to gets repetitious.
Walkable to town but not central. Does have limited shuttle service. "
"Very friendly staff. I caught them in the middle of renovations of a couple of floors but they were consensus of work hours. 10 minute walk from jr rail station. "
