"Beautiful place but our mattress was so hard, I lost sleep! There was a point where I considered sleeping on the floor, as I thought it might be more comfortable, and my partner developed back and hip pain. The staff was lovely, everyone was so friendly and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. About a 20 minute walk from city centre, the location was also great! Apart from the mattress, I would definitely recommend to stay here. "

"A wonderful hotel! Stayed before and this time introduced a friend. The hotel is ideally situated for sightseeing, theatre visits and for restaurants. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is clean and well appointed. Also good to observe maintenance being carried out. It did not detract from the visit. Breakfast was good although not as hot as it could have been but I appreciate that can happen with a buffet. Would highly recommend this hotel and in fact my friend said she would use next time she is in York."

"The rooms were excellent, and the king-sized beds are superb. We were very early, but the rooms were ready and the gentleman at reception checked the availability of the rooms, and as they were ready, he allowed us to access them - a rare treat. Breakfast was delicious and copious. The only 2 minor issues are the lifts, which need multiple presses of the buttons at times and the coffee in the bar was disappointing. No expresso cups, and no decaffeinated option other than powdered DIY sachets."

"On arrival the staff were very helpful however when after being given our room we were appalled at the condition, especially the bathroom. The furniture was old and dated, the mattress and pillows hard, but it was the bathroom that dismayed us the most. There was black mold on the ceiling and extractor fan, the floor was uneven due to the lino was separating from the wooden floor. The taps on the sink needed replacing and the shower controls didn't work. To sum up the bathroom wanted gutting. After complaining and requesting another room we were told the hotel was fully booked but would be moved in the morning. The duty manager was very apologetic and we were offered a complimentary evening meal and drinks which didn't really compensate for the situation. The next morning we were moved to another room, a little better but not great. Wouldn't stay again or recommend."

"The hotel has a very modern and contemporary feel. The breakfast area was open concept and lobby area extremely well designed and welcoming. The location was good with all the tourist attractions within walking distance. The staff were extremely gracious and friendly. The rooms were clean, however the modern design and assignment of an accessible room - it had limited functionality - no closets/wardrobe, no safe, limited vanity or counter space around the sink, limited furniture and absolutely no pressure in shower."

"Lovely hotel but our room wasn’t cleaned properly, could have done with a good freshen up , however we did see painters in so probably in process of freshening up rooms, bed was very comfortable but could have done with new pillows as they were a bit flat, Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Food was very good huge portions, freshly cooked and reasonably priced."
