They guided me on places to visit, how and where to buy the "maki" card to pay for public transportation, etc. On my way back to the hotel, they asked me how my trip had gone, if I liked where I went, what my plans were for the next day, and if they could help me. Apart from that, the people of Melbourne—on the street, on the tram, on the train, in the lobby—would see me with a tourist map in my hand and immediately approach me to offer help (young people, adults, seniors, men, women, gays—they all offered help).
