I visited Barcelo Maya Riviera in April of 2026. The pool was very large and never felt crowded. The food at the buffet was amazing. They serve breakfast and lunch and an early dinner as the buffet closes at 6pm. So either have an early dinner or visit one of the many à la carte restaurants. The restaurants were all very good most especially le Comedie the French restaurant. The rooms were very spacious and king bed was bigger than a king lol it was huge. The staff were amazing This is a trip I will never forget.

We had an excellent stay. It's a high end resort for sure. We could always find some great food and it was nice to be able to book an a la carte restaurant experience for each night. It was difficult to reserve some restaurants though so book the ones you want as soon as you can. The short rib beef at La Comedie and Rodizio were the best items I ate all trip. La Dolce and the taco bar at Agave were excellent as well. The beach is nice, getting chairs and towels for the beach and pools wasn't as big of a deal as some people say so I wouldn't worry about that. I even managed to win some money at the casino at the mall on-site. Everybody who works at this resort is super friendly and helpful, they have a wonderful staff and provide a nice experience. Sarah, Ireli, and Regina were excellent Barcelo Life workers who provided a genuine, fun experience pool-side so I thought they deserved a shout-out. Juan was my man for providing freshly made Omelettes during the breakfast buffet and tacos for lunch at the Mirador buffet. The Pastore tacos were nice and you could add fresh toppings and spicy salsas if you like. Ice cream was nice at the buffet as well I had a very nice server at the Mirador buffet during lunch named Maria. The rooms were very nice and big and had great air conditioning. We will definitely miss the bed in our room which was super comfortable and seemed to be a California King, it was so big. You can get any high end alcohol that that you seek. Overall: 4.7/5

We recently stayed at the Adults Only section of the Barcelo Grand Resort and it exceeded all our expectations. By choosing the AO, you receive access to all other hotels within this “community” that has a mile of beachfront and is landlocked with no public access, making it feel very private. The à la carte restaurants were all very good (my favorite being Sapporo which is a Japanese restaurant), room service was good and the buffet provided lots of options and were decent as well. You can also eat at restaurants and buffets at the other resorts as well, but we did not. We chose the premium option which I felt was worth it for access to the premium lounge areas. Everyone we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. The beach area is huge and chairs were always available on the beach when we were there. The pool was a little harder to find chairs if you aren’t out there early, but that would literally be my only complaint of people saving seats and never showing up. We were there mid-April and the sargassum (seaweed) is definitely there, but they do an amazing job to keep it as clean as possible. It varies day to day depending on the winds and weather, so just keep that in mind. However, you can usually walk a little further up the beach within that mile stretch and find areas with no seaweed. There are good areas for snorkeling and swimming in the ocean as well as a pier to walk out on and see the sea turtles. I could go on and on… we’ll definitely be back!

The WOW factor for this resort was exceptional. The design was well thought out and attention to detail was second to none. Every aspect of our stay was exceptional. Mother nature floated in sargassum but the staff was incredible in their efforts to clean the beach every day.

Clean property and well maintained. Staff was attentive but English was tough for some of the staff workers. Pool bar was slow and there is no drink service at the beach. Entertainment was great but the restaurants left you hungry still. Overall a great hotel which we will visit again. Pools were amazing and not crowded.

It's a fantastic all inclusive hotel. The buffet food is excellent, the drinks are good (mid shelf brands are used). The restaurants are good too, we'd recommend the Mexican and the French ones. The Italian was mediocre. Kyoto, on another territory, was great. The rooms are fantastic, well lit, modern and noise proof. The jacuzzi on the balcony is perfect for couples. For us, the mattress ante pillows were very comfortable. The wifi works perfectly well, almost no dead zones through the whole territory. The staff is really good, always attentive and courteous. The beach is great, with clear water, but there are some rocks. However about 50 per cent is rock free, and of course one can use the other Barceló hotels beaches also, by walking a hundred meters/yards, and they're great too. The gym is small but good, the classes were very good too. The folks staying at the hotel are mostly Americans, middle-aged and older. They're generally calm and polite, with some standard exceptions, of course. Some things need improving, such as towel policy on chaise longues, the tvs in the rooms are old and cannot stream or cast. Some people bring their portable speakers to the beach, there's no enforcement against that. The Jaguar disco is bad, with mostly youngsters from other hotels, the night entertainment could be a little better. To sum up, we liked the hotel very much, it was totally worth the money paid.

I had high hopes for this resort. I have been to several other resorts in the area (Dreams, Rui, etc.) and had very good experiences. What immediately struck me upon arrival was how unhelpful the staff was and they definitely acted very nonchalant about assisting my fiancé and I with getting accommodated after a long day of travel. I would describe the front desk, valet's, and reservation desk as very lackadaisical. When you arrive, you must make your dinner reservations (which took 1.5 hours) or you will be stuck eating quite possibly the worst buffet food I have ever had. It was the same level of quality as an average public high school's cafeteria food. Sapporo was definitely the best restaurant on the resort and after trying the mexican one there and la Fuente, we did not dare venture from it again. Walking to your room does feel like walking into a psych ward, very bland decor, no life. You do have to pay extra for room service as well which is the first all inclusive I have encountered that with but maybe thats normal but was disappointed with. The room did have a jacuzzi which was very cool and clean, I thought the room was very nice but my couch was wet for some reason and smelled of mildew. The pool and beach were absolutely beautiful but do not expect good service from staff while out there. They definitely do not treat you as well as other resorts Ive been to unless you tip consistently well. Would generally describe the staff as incredibly lazy. 6/10

Everything about this resort was beyond my expectations! We booked a premium level swim up room for 5 days and 4 nights. Upon arrival we were greeted by the very nice and courteous bell service men. Went straight to the premium level lounge to check in. It was fast and easy and even made our dinner reservations right then and there. Rooms: 9/10 clean, always stocked up, no dewy smell like you get with most water front properties. Staff: 10/10 did not encounter one rude staff person. All were very kind. Property: 10/10 absolutely beautiful! There was never a spot I didn’t see workers cleaning or fixing things and never saw them getting in the way or closing of areas. Spa: 10/10 had a massage and body wrap! 100% worth it! And last but not least!! Food: 20/10! The food was always fresh yummy and hot!! The restaurants were top tier! We never had a bad dish and if we didn’t like it the waiter or waitress brought us something else. Thank Barcelo Maya Riviera for making this one of the best trips ever!! I hope to go back one day!!

We had a fantastic stay. The staff, food, hotel amenities, restaurants, and entertainment were all excellent. However, as a beach lover, I was disappointed that we couldn't enjoy the beach due to algae and the ongoing cleanup by the staff. I learned that this issue typically occurs in that area from January to September.

This was our first time staying at the Barcelo Maya Riviera. We're happy to say that it exceeded our expectations. The staff are so kind, friendly and accommodating. Pool and beach access are very easy. The areas are very well kept and clean. We were so impressed with the cleanliness of the resort and its grounds. Well done! Our room was beautiful and room service was excellent. Our ocean view room was on the second floor, which was not the best as we were not high enough. Aim to reserve on the third or fourth floor if this is important to you. Typically there are no dinner buffets, only breakfast and lunch. Make your dinner reservations as soon as you check-in as times fill-up very quickly. The 4 restaurants on site are excellent. Very well done, and architecturally beautiful. Not worth leaving the resort to venture out to the adjacent Barcelos. This is the best one. The mall is mediocre. We tried the Uspa, and loved it. Highly recommend. We will be back!

Barcelo es hermoso en toda la extension de la palabra. Si pueden quedarse en este hotel, no la desaprovechen. La comida es deliciosa, tanto en buffet como en restaurante, el personal muy amable, las habitaciones equipadas con todo lo necesario, en fin. Enamorada y con ganas de volver

We were a party of six and our stay at the Barcelo Maya riviera was superb. The modern minimalist design appealed to us as the rest of the five hotel complex looks old and dated. Our ocean front rooms were on the highest floor and had an awesome viewing incl of the sunrise. The huge Rooms were new looking and well appointed. Buffet meals at Bf n lunch were excellent! And all four specialty restaurants (Mexican n Asian n Italian n French ) offered refined and delicious dining choices. Make sure you book your reservations for these on arrival. We loved all the massive pools as well as the great gym. Jonathan checked us in n out n he was so good n helpful to us. The short walk from BMR to the cenote Azul close by was also worthwhile. Highly recommend this resort esp if you r Expedia VIP as you will have extra perks n treats.

We really enjoyed the pools at the AO. Buffet was okay. The ala carte restaurants were delicious. Snorkeling was not the best but still saw the turtles.

This hotel was a swimmer’s paradise. Probably one of my favorite things was swimming when it turned dusk and watching the stars come out from the infinity pool. Also thanks to my Expedia status, I got upgraded to an ocean view. AO was so nice and this hotel was the best in the resort. It is also home to the best 4 restaurants! I didn’t want to leave the Riviera Maya Hotel and I want to go back.

The rooms are older and starting to show their age. Discolouration on mirrors, toilet flush mechanism missing decorative part. Everything still works fine though. Their idea of a Garden View and not the best either (dilapidated old buildings in the forested area) but I didn’t go there to stay in my room so not a huge deal either. The food was good. Love the spa. The employees were all friendly. So overall a 3.5-4 star review overall.

The resort was beautiful. Well maintained. I didn't like the fact that there was only Dos XX beer on tap throughout the entire resort and limited dinner reservations with bigger families. Other option was the buffet and no food ordering outside.
