The photos online made the room look modern and recently updated, but in reality it felt very dated, almost as if it hadn’t been refurbished in decades. The room was also not as clean as expected. One of the biggest issues was the lack of ventilation. The room became very hot, but opening the window-door wasn’t really an option as it allowed insects to come into the room. 「What a beautiful location! Lovely hotel in a perfect spot. The staff were all so freindly and helpful, especially the extremely polite dark haired gentleman at the bar when we arrived. He took the trouble to show me to the room and explained everything. The breakfast was also very good, great choice and lovely to sit with a view of the Abbey. Would love to stay here again and would highly recommend.」

Had a small issue so we called Jonny who answered on the 2nd ring, talked us through the solution, and then gave us some tips on things to do. Great service. 「Battle is a very small town; having the helpful hotel staff in the neighborhood is certainly a plus. This building has existed as of the 16th century, and it's been properly maintained and apparently renovated in the toilet/bathroom.」
