"The food did not taste like authentic Jamaican cuisine. My first point of contact at the hotel was the receptionist, who did not speak any English and mentioned that he was from Cuba. Since I was visiting Jamaica, it would have been wonderful to be welcomed by someone who was Jamaican-born. It's understandable to have people from different countries working in Jamaica, and we are all one people, but I believe that the first point of contact and representation at a hotel in an English-speaking country should ideally be a Jamaican. It felt disheartening to be greeted by someone who didn’t speak English, as it did not reflect the experience I was hoping to have in Jamaica. I wanted to fully experience the culture of Jamaica, not this."
