Honolulu

Each year on Memorial Day, O'ahu hosts a beautiful event called the Lantern Floating Festival, held at Ala Moana Beach Park. If you don't mind the crowds of people, this is a moving and emotional experience. People write messages on personal lanterns and float them out to sea (not to worry, a boat with nets will catch them all so that there is no litter.)

TIP: walk or bike to the event, as parking is impossible.

During daytime, this beach is a great place for families and children, as there is a reef protecting the beach, which means no big waves!

The ocean and mountains were visible from the room. The lanai was wonderful to have. Note: the resort is older and small details reveal the age, like popcorn ceilings and maybe peeling veneer on random furniture. Staff and charm and history outweigh these asthetic concerns. It is a beautiful, welcoming ...
