An excellent ryokan with attentive and welcoming staff. However, the lack of blinds or adequate window coverings in the bedroom resulted in an early wake-up at sunrise!

I got insect bite on my leg after lying down on the tatami Although well maintained but shows its age I book the nicer room with views end up getting a ground floor room with no views and looking at the fence But dinner and breakfast are good There are better choices in Hakone area

We booked two massages at 4 pm. The hotel forgot one of them. We were offered apologies but no compensation. The forgotten massage was given after dinner, not an ideal time. The shiatsu massage is done in your room on your bed. The spa massage was lovely and is done in the spa.

The staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming. The hotel is beautiful. Our private onsen was something out of a movie. And it’s a superb place for kids — many fun little treats everywhere. Very much recommend. However, if your kid is an adventurous eater, make sure they do not serve them the kids meal Kaiseki. It is definitely subpar fast food level. Pre-order the adult version because you can’t change on the spot.

Incredible attention to detail and service. Our room was impeccable and has all of the amenities you would need and want. Most of all, it was our sanctuary during a busy honeymoon trip - reminding us to slow down, sip tea, and take in the scenery - we only wish we could’ve stayed longer. Thank you to Ali for hosting us and for our special personalised honeymoon card!

We had an amazing stay at Byakudan. All the staff are friendly and helpful, food delicious, shuttle convenient, and the private onsen is DIVINE! It’s so relaxing with serene forest in front of you. It will definitely be our go to place whenever we go back to Hakone in the future.
