I’ve been coming to Asbury Park since I was a little girl, and my parents lived at the Asbury Towers for over 30 years—so I know the area and The Berkeley Hotel very well. Over the years, I’ve seen the hotel go through ups and downs, and while some of the quirks of a 100-year-old shorefront building can be forgiven, this most recent experience was truly disappointing.
I stayed for a girls’ weekend from Friday, July 18th through Monday, July 21st. Unfortunately, our room was never cleaned during our entire stay. I called the front desk several times requesting fresh towels (which I had to pick up myself), and worst of all — no one replaced the toilet paper. At 6 a.m., I had to go down to the lobby and ask for a roll. That’s not just inconvenient, it’s unacceptable.
These basic service failures completely overshadowed the charm and history of the hotel. I genuinely hope management takes this seriously. Guests are willing to overlook some wear and tear due to the age and location of the building — but not basic hospitality.
Please do better.
