Vacation in a town on the southern banks of Lake Huron that is renowned for its long freshwater beach, skiing, hiking and history.

Lying on the southern shores of Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay is the pretty and outdoor adventure-loving town of Wasaga Beach. It is where you will find valleys, wetlands, a forested park and one of the longest freshwater beaches.

Visit Wasaga Beach, a large Blue Flag beach that stretches for approximately 9 miles (14 kilometers). Swim, sunbathe, go Jet Skiing and windsurfing and picnic on the white sands. On Tuesday evenings during July and August attend free jazz concerts. At the eastern end of the beach, find Beach Drive, a vibrant area of waterfront bars, cafés and restaurants.

The beach is part of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park, a pine-oak forested park that also features 18 miles (30 kilometers) of trails that are ideal for hiking and biking. Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy spotting deer and endangered birds, among other fauna. In the winter months, come here for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Venture deeper into the park by renting a kayak and exploring the 20-mile (32-kilometer) Nottawasaga Canoe Route. The Nottawasaga River weaves through picturesque valleys and wetlands where you might see beavers, herons and swans.

During your tour of the park, learn about local history at the Nancy Island Historic Site. Enjoy theatrical performances, watch the video presentation and take part in cannon-firing exhibitions to discover more about HMS Nancy, a British ship that served in the War of 1812.

Treat the children to an afternoon at Elmvale Jungle Zoo where there are more than 300 animals including lions, lemurs, jaguars and giraffes. For even more animal experiences, go to Rounds Ranch, a working farm in nearby Elmvale.

Wasaga Beach has a year-round schedule of cultural events. Among the highlights are June’s Kite Fest, September’s Wasaga Beach Blues Festival and the Christmas parade.

Wasaga Beach is less than a 2-hour drive from Toronto and served by intercity buses. Stay at family-friendly resorts, beachside hotels and camping grounds.

Enjoy a combination of relaxation, recreation and adventure and take advantage of Wasaga Beach’s location as a gateway to popular Ontario attractions such as Blue Mountain Ski Resort and Collingwood Scenic Caves.
