Place feels like a halfway house with drug users everywhere and people on the margins of society who look like they've just been dumped there instead of going to a homeless shelter. Felt grimy, somewhat unsafe, and not a place for single women or families. Would not stay here again and surprised the place is still functioning legally.
My family only stayed one night and it was very convenient as it was a walkable distance of the CN tower and other attractions. If you are looking for a place to sleep, this hotel is for you.
Very friendly front desk staff. Morning coffee, best. The lady at the desk was so informative and shared a city map, she took time to circle special points of interest and how to take public transportation. Felt very safe and room was warm and showers were nice and hot.
The hotel is not fancy, but it is clean and in a central location. The staff are kind and respectful
Now, Hotels.com on the other hand overcharged me and refuse to refund about 40 bucks so that stinks about the 3rd party booking site, but the hotel itself I would recommend!

Alexandra hotel is just off Queen street in an older part of the city. Accordingly, the hotel is an older style. On the plus side, service was very good and the unit was reasonably clean. However, it is a picture out of the 70's and appears not to have been renovated ever since. Air conditioner is very noisy and opening the windows invites the noise of the city in... it goes all night long... The kitchenette is functional, but the very old style fridge with interior freezer compartment froze our fruit and vegetables and so storing fresh items was not an option.
Overall, a mixed experience.

The room was clean and quiet, which is all I need. The building is a 20 minute walk from TIFF, which made it very accessible. This is an older building, so everything in it is older.
The hotel is 2 blocks away from a great Loblaws with a Winners in the upstairs for shoppers. One half hour walk to Rogers Centre with great restaurants along the way. Coffee pot provided when you ask, just bring a few filters. Square bottom. Vront desk very helpful and friendly. Rates were high but TO is very expensive everywhere. $35 tourist tax will be added to your bill. Good little hotel in a great location.
Close to transit, clean room, had a cute little kitchen. Not the newest fanciest place, but it’s obvious they take great care in maintaining the building. Will definitely stay again.

The staff were wonderful. I did not realize that there were permanent residents in this older place. The hotel is really on the top floor only. Many vagrants in the two parks alongside the hotel so took cabs at night. We were advised to park the car where the office could monitor at all hours and there was someone always there. Simple but clean rooms and it was actually quiet. The residents were polite and probably were screened carefully by the staff. So a nice place, a bit old but clean in a neighbourhood that I would not walk in at night.

The reception woman was very nice. Rooms r dated and basic. But did the trick for a night.
Came to Toronto for a concert and stayed one night. Basic, minimalist, cheap for summer in Toronto. Clean, comfortable enough, tv worked, bathroom fine. Not a high end boutique hotel by any stretch, but adequate for our purposes.
The location is great and close to many public transportation stops/routes. It's easy to go around on foot directly from the hotel. The staff is welcoming and eager to help. The parking provided is very convenient.
Side note: we noticed some drug use in the streets around the hotel and in the hotel parking lot. Not an issue in itself, just thought I'd mention it to avoid any surprises.
The Alexandra itself is not indulgent, but clean and very functional. Staff were very helpful and the property is in an excellent location. However, a vehicle in the parking lot (not ours) had the rear window smashed in with a brick. So, I would advise ensuring your car is empty and locked.
