The Dutch Flat Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"This is a recently renovated Gold Rush era hotel, very quaint and authentic. The rooms and bathrooms have been updated to modern standards which is nice, but have authentic period decor/antiques. The town is VERY small and cute, extremely quiet (in general) and a walkable historic self-guided tour. It makes a great base of operations for exploring the area.
A couple of things to know: it is 3 story, but because of the age, there is no elevator (typical with Gold Rush era hotels). They have one room on the ground floor for ADA compliance. The town is so small that they don’t have any other businesses besides a small general store and post office, so you must drive to find anything else to do. As of this moment there is no restaurant or bar, but the hotel owner is working on that and says that pending permit approvals, should open their restaurant and bar this year. During the week, breakfast is just self-serve coffee and cereal, but they offer more on weekends. Despite it being so quiet, there is an active train track not far from the town and although we didn’t hear it (the road crossing was far enough away), it’s worth noting. Most of the small Gold Rush era towns along I-80 have this issue, just be aware.
We were thrilled with the experience and authenticity of it and will go again. "
"Nice location - close driving distance to Donner Lake and Downtown Truckee. It's quiet and easy to park at. One disappointment was that the pool was out of service during our stay. The complimentary breakfasts were a really nice ammenity - they would alternate proteins between Bacon, and Sausage. Other offers were oatmeal, yogurt, fresh bananas, fresh pancakes, eggs, bagels, bread, english muffins, (w/the ability to toast them), muffins, and cereal. There is also an automated espresso machine that makes hot cocoa, lattes, mochas, etc. "
"This is the largest, and probably best hotel right in Nevada City, on the main street. But it is far enough from any live music venues not to be bothered. A beautifully restored/refitted old brick nineteenth century hotel. I would definitely stay there again in Nevada City. That said, it does not have 21st-century innovations like TV or swimming pools! But if you want old-timey Gold Country charm, I recommend it. The hotel restaurant is good, too. And the staff was professional

"This property is really a hidden gem of a hotel. The rates are very reasonable and the area around the hotel is beautiful. The property even has a natural waterfall and a fern grotto which is extraordinary. The rooms are older but very clean and well maintained. Also the beds are very comfortable. The room also has a small refrigerator and microwave.
All in all this is a place you should really consider. I know i would definitely come back.

"We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We mainly used it to sleep in so we appreciated the easy parking and quick grab and go breakfast in the morning. The staff was lovely and helpful. Would love to come back. "
"Great location downtown. Staff helped us store luggage for a few hours. We got the room with its own bathroom and it was great for the one night we were there."
