Staggering coastal views, cascading waterfalls and a laid-back yet quirky city center welcomes nature-lovers to Jeju Island’s second-largest city.

Seogwipo’s natural beauty is undeniable. Perched on a rocky volcanic coastline, it boasts sea views and excellent scuba diving. Yet you’ll also discover waterfalls, a deep gorge and several leafy parks. Enjoy walking along the Olle Trails, a series of walking routes that pass through Seogwipo and weave across Jeju Island, or stay in town and enjoy the eclectic range of sights. Soak up the views from the sail-like Saeyeon-gyo Bridge, which stretches across the harbor.

Although it’s Jeju’s second-largest city, Seogwipo has a friendly, small-town vibe which attracts nature-lovers. Days here are filled with adventure. Hike to one of the waterfalls that cascade down the slopes of Hallasan mountain for a memorable day out. Jeongbang Waterfall crashes 75 feet (23 meters) into the sea below, while Cheonjiyeon Waterfall can be found in the center of town. Head 15 minutes out of Seogwipo to walk the forested gorge to Cheonjeyeon Waterfall, which is in the Jungmun Tourist Complex.

The Yeomiji Botanical Gardens are a paradise of themed gardens and bio-domes filled with exotic plants. There is also a magnificent view of Hallasan, the tallest mountain in South Korea and a dormant shield volcano. Be amazed at the sight of this towering peak rising behind. For those that enjoy hiking, the Hallasan National Park offers plenty of trails. The park is an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Seogwipo is a quirky city with a vibrant personality. The hip Lee Jung Seop-ro Street is filled with cute cafés, art galleries and funky street art. The city is also known for its three adult-only museums including the World Eros Museum, which combines erotica and art. Visit the Every Day Market (Mae-il shi-jang) to try some of the locally-grown Jeju produce and home-cooked traditional foods.

The Jeju International Airport receives flights from all across South Korea, as well as internationally. There is also a regular ferry service from mainland South Korea. Walk around Seogwipo easily thanks to its small size, or hop in a taxi or a local bus to explore a bit further afield.

However, we were really close to a side exit door and had easy access to the pool area which made it worth it. My kids loved the pool and kids play area. During our trip in mid-April, ..."

Seogwipo in general is much warmer than Jeju si, especially around Jungmun area. I recommend visiting beaches and mountains around here. Btw, El marino sea food restaurant is excellent so one should try it out.
