"Good"

"This was a spur of the moment decision and we are so glad we had this memorable experience. We abandoned our first (prepaid) stay at another location to get closer to the action in La Fortuna. Mentioning this to the front desk, they said “we are not fancy”. To us, this was so special. At the gate at the bottom of the mountain, an attendant lets you in (with confirmation of reservation). The road is high and steep and takes about 6 minutes to climb. A four wheel drive vehicle is recommended. As a result of this location, we felt VERY safe here. We didn’t even use the actual safe. Our room was older, but absolutely tidy. The AC worked great and the shower was hot (not so at other locations we stayed). The hot tubs were lovely; could have been hotter, but the grounds were so pretty. Provided breakfast was perfect. Dinner was fine, but not a highlight. Given the steep hill, you are kind of stuck after dark. Thankfully a pool table and nice fellow guests kept us entertained. This was an uber memorable experience for us and a special place for our family. Our teenage son will look back at this spot fondly. "

"This is a classic, elegant upscale hotel with well maintained, individual cottages each with a spectacular view of Lake Arenal (when the clouds lift). The food is outstanding, both the included breakfast and the ala carte lunch/dinner menu. The service is excellent and staff very helpful and friendly. It rained all 5 days we stayed here. But the rain did not keep us from hiking, birding, going to hot springs or hanging out at the covered hot tub on premises. Overall, it was a wonderful, relaxing and adventuresome vacation and I would highly recommend La Mansion."

"Absolutely loved the property! Had amazing menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My cabin was super cute and clean. It was so quiet that all I heard while lying in bed were howler monkeys, birds and tree frogs. The staff was so helpful and knew me by name. They even made me a sandwich for a hike I was going on for the day! Horseback riding was a blast and was reasonably priced. Wifi in the common area worked great. My only suggestions would be Wifi in the cabins and hot water but those are extremely minor details for me. The road was a bit rough to get there but that's just Costa Rica. Absolutely would highly recommend this property 100%. It was exactly what I needed, a break from everything!"
