Chalet Kilauea
10/10 Excellent
"This hotel is more like a rental house than typical hotel. There are only eight or so rooms and each one has nice views with privacy. There is no staff on site but you can contact them is needed. I would stay here again. One thing to consider, you are 30 minutes from most services. If you don’t mind that and want something quiet this is a great option."

"Cute mom-and-pop property in a great location near Volcanoes National Park. It felt more like staying in a little house in the rainforest than a hotel. A little rustic, but in a good way. Hearing the birds and other animals at night made it really special. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!"

"What a beautiful spot! The rooms are clean, the gardens are beautiful, and they serve a fresh delicious breakfast to your room every day. We enjoyed the Rainforest Walk on the grounds and seeing wild critters and plants. It’s also a 5-minute drive to the entrance of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, which was perfect. I loved this place and next time I’m booking more nights!"

"Liked: 1) The owner met us upon arrival and indicated where to park; 2) The “jungle-like” setting; 3) The quiet setting; 4) The cottage-like unit, especially the tree trunk columns; and 5) The papaya and fig bar “continental breakfast.” Not liked: 1) The lack of clear signage and way-finding; and 2) The mustiness of the unit."

"The owners (different than the host) are the best! They made sure that we have everything we need to make our stay comfortable and stress-free as our house in Ka’u was damaged by Hurricane Lala. The Nene Room was beautiful, clean and peaceful with its large picture window overlooking the serene forest. We also stayed in Gecko room that has one bedroom, living room, and kitchen. The Gecko room is comfortable and perfect for family and longer stays. The surrounding is quiet and close to stores, restaurants, and very close proximity to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park."

Volcano Rainforest Retreat

"Lovely spot to enjoy Volcano National Park. The small town is quite limited, so maybe not ideal for a long stay. The Bamboo Guest house was well suited for our family of four. Our two children slept on the “floor futons” and were very comfortable. The house is not air conditioned, which means the windows must be open when it is warm out, allowing some bugs and moisture in. But, the rain forest vibes are pretty nice. Really enjoyed the Japanese soaking tub. WiFi is very spotty. Host was lovely and the breakfast fruit and breads were nice additions."
