Gothic Basin is a great backpacking hike or long day hike. Off the Mountain Loop Highway near Barlow Pass, it is a great way to scope out all the peaks in the area.
A two-mile trek through both old growth and second growth will take you to this charming little lake. Great for kids! It was (much) too cold for swimming in November, but I bet it will be perfect for swimming when the air temperature isn't hovering around 40 degrees. There are a number of campsites here, plus more at Ollalie Lake which is just another 3/4 mile up the trail. I think we caught the tail end of the hiking season for this trail this year, as I expect the trail to be covered with snow in a matter of weeks.
