Gave me a room that was tidied up, but with dirty sheets- was filled with body hair and clearly used. The support line was quick to respond, but ultimately unhelpful and they never solved the issue nor followed up.

Overall, the experience was horrible. We booked a room with a private bathroom, but what we found upon arrival was a room with a keypad code and a bathroom located outside that anyone could access. Furthermore, when we arrived, we found our shower running; another guest had turned it on because the hot water wasn't working in his bathroom and he wanted to check ours. Inside the room, there were dirty papers and socks under the bed, along with who knows what else. There was also a leak near the air conditioning unit. We complained to the hostel, but they did nothing. We went out to visit the city, and when we returned, we found a cockroach on the ceiling. During the night, more leaks appeared—one much larger near the window—making it impossible to sleep well due to the constant dripping. The next day we called because we didn't think what was happening was fair. Their only 'solution' was to send someone while we were out (giving them permission to enter) or for us to stay there and wait. Naturally, we said no and went out to see the city. When we got back, we saw that the bathroom had been used. To top it off, someone had eaten the food we left in the fridge, and we saw another cockroach in the kitchen. In the meantime, we tried to get a refund so we could leave, but we couldn't get the hostel or Expedia to agree because they were so slow to respond. They have at least refunded us for one night for the inconvenience, but I clearly do not recommend this place at all.

The code for the front door never work, so I was lock out and there wasn’t any working outlet in the room throughout my stay.

When I arrived, there was blood all over the bedding, which I did appreciate them switching quickly. However, for 4 nights of my stay, I was unable to get in the front door and was left out in the rain late at night. The person in charge of communication was so incredibly rude and truly could not have cared less. Not once did they help me get inside. I had to rely on other random people from the building to let me in. It was incredibly unsafe.

The code I got sent for the front door did not work. Nobody picked up my first call. The check in instructions were not clear enough. It was not obvious to me whether my code wasn’t Working or whether I am at the wrong door.

Worst experience ever!!! I stayed for 2 nights over Christmas. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Our room was on the 1st floor, and water was leaking from the room upstairs. I discovered it at 6:00 a.m., and some of my clothes were wet. I couldn’t use the laundry because it was busy since the night before, and I didn’t have time to wait.

Great stay overall. I just wish it wasn’t so cold in the building. Couldn’t find a thermostat. I know it’s Cali , but the nights I was there.. it was very cool outside. Otherwise I loved it.

The imterior design set the perfect tone it felt like a small upscale hostel. So clean, all the ammenities, its in a neighborhood with a Roscoes and in driving distsnce to cvs/ Ralphs etc.

My initial impression of Dondo Stay was positive, but that changed quickly upon arrival. I arrived late at night after an 8-hour drive, expecting a clean and secure space. Unfortunately, my bathroom was not clean (shaved hairs in the sink and hair in the shower), and the bed sheets were mismatched and covered in lint, which made me question whether they had been laundered at all. More concerning was the lack of basic security. The front door was not functioning properly, and a side door had been left unlocked. Another guest actually stopped me to ask how to get into the house, as the entry mechanisms were not working — which further heightened my discomfort. A dog right outside my window barked through the night. When I contacted the hotel about the unclean room, I was told housekeeping could come clean it “now.” At that point, given the condition of the room and safety concerns, I chose to leave a day early. Communication throughout the stay felt impersonal and scripted, almost as if I were texting with AI bots. I received a generic “thank you for letting us know,” followed the next day by a message outlining checkout procedures, even though I had already left. I later received a message asking me to leave a positive review in exchange for 15% off a future stay. Needless to say, I will not be returning. While the concept has potential, cleanliness, safety, and meaningful human communication must be non-negotiable in hospitality. Sadly, all three were lacking here.
