"We were in the one bedroom suite with a full kitchen. It was very clean and very nice. We honestly didn't see any of the staff even once which was pretty funny lol. We checked in at 11:00 p.m. so we got a text with our room number and PIN code to get in and then check out was also just a phone call to let them know we've left and that was that. We never even went into the main building to see the lobby or anything because we were so tired after our very full days in Salem. I can say the outdoor area with the fire pits looked very nice although we couldn't use them due to snow but I'm sure in nice weather they're a really really nice touch. Walking distance from Essex Street where all the shops are is about 20 minutes - 4 minute car ride. Very convenient area to stay at, away from all the downtown noise. Would definitely come here again and maybe take a themed room. We needed the suite with the kitchen this time. The kitchen has a full size fridge and freezer, oven, Keurig coffee machine with pods. Everything was very well appointed and would definitely stay here again. "

"For the past few years when we come to Salem we stay at the Salem inn , it’s our go to place. Clean, friendly, close to shopping and dining. Only issue - parking is a bit far, but that hasn’t stopped us😋. And Breakfast is lovely. Will return! "

"This inn was a dream to stay at! Every staff member was so kind and welcoming! They had fresh baked scones and fritattas every morning and fresh *warm* chocolate chip cookies every afternoon. All of it tasted immaculate. We looked forward to breakfast every day and coming in from the cold to a warm cookie was just amazing! This inn is also centrally located so we walked everywhere. It has some really cool history behind it too! We took a walking tour (history and haunts walking tour with Dean was equally wonderful) and the inn was part of the tour! Finally, the room was beautiful. It was so welcoming and lovely. The fireplace and heated bathroom floor were very much needed after walking in the cold all day. The bed was so comfortable I didn't even miss my own! If you are making a trip to Salem, you absolutely MUST stay at The Merchant! You will not regret it 💜 "

"Location was good. House was from the 1900. There was charm to it, but doors were literally were falling off hinges. This property could use a face lift. Rugs were nailed to older carpet. Very spacious and stocked with kitchen items. There was a mouse in the kitchen. I understand sometimes it’s out of the owners control. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I would not stay at this property again, especially since they “double” charged me for the stay. It took days and multiple attempts to connect with anyone, even hotels.com struggled to reach the property. They did refund the money they should have NEVER charged, just wish I didn’t have to go through the hassle. I’m not trying to be disrespectful, I just want to be honest so that fellow travelers can make an educated decision on whether or not they’d like to stay at this property. "
