Learn about mariachi, charreadas and jaripeos to understand the meaning of the phrase, “Jalisco is Mexico.” Mountains, valleys and beaches make up the varied and picturesque terrain of Jalisco. The state’s scenic bays and cliffs overlook the Pacific Coast, while its cities introduce you to the fascinating culture and history of Mexico. Get a sense of local traditions as you taste some tequila, listen to ranchera and mariachi music and watch chasreadas and jaripeos, which are types of rodeo.
Visit the large state capital of Guadalajara for its many charming plazas, parks and museums. Explore the imposing Catedral Metropolitana and see its twin spires illuminated at night. Spend some time in the intriguing Jesus Gonzalez Gallo Cultural Center and admire its majestic façade. Head northwest to the quaint, iconic town of Tequila, considered the birthplace of its namesake beverage. Take tours of its distilleries.
Among Jalisco’s main draws is the stunning Costa Alegre on the western coast. Enjoy the vibrant nightlife in Puerto Vallarta and wander through the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens. Enjoy the hot, sunny summers with a trip to Playa Punta de Mita, Playa Gemelas and Camarones Beach among others.
