"Clean rooms, and a very comfortable bed and bedding meant we had a great few nights for a city break. The location is great - immediately next to a tram stop and supermarket or a 4 minute walk to the airport shuttle. The area around is lovely and relatively quiet. It's situated immediately on a small canal and with lots of restaurants close by. It was thankfully not in the tourist epicentre of the city. The was a room having a 3am party, but reception immediately came and shut it down. This seems an unusual activity for the hotel and its clientele. The hotel restaurant and cocktail bar were nice and staff always excellent. The only negatives were the rooms being too atmospheric (dimly lit) and the small mini-fridges not keeping anything cool. But a great stay and we would return. "

"Hotel was in a really good area right on dam square and breakfast is what you’d expect "

"The hotel has a good location in the museum quarter of Amsterdam and a good breakfast at a reasonable price. But our introduction to the hotel was damaged by the staff at reception. I'd received notification three weeks in advance that I was eligible for a reduced price of a room upgrade, which I clicked to accept. I didn't hear back. When checking in, I was told there was no record of the offer and that these upgrades depended on availability and there was no room available. I immediately checking online with Expedia and the deluxe room I wanted was available for the time of our stay. However, no discussion of this with the staff worked. We were then told that we'd have to wait three hours for our original room. A few minutes later, the staff checked again and our room was ready. The behaviour of the staff affected our perception of the stay. The room we had was cramped for two people."

"I recently stayed at Jan Luyken Hotel in Amsterdam and it genuinely exceeded expectations. The location is absolutely perfect—right in the Museum Quarter, just a short walk from the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Vondelpark. It made exploring the cultural heart of the city effortless, while still feeling calm and refined compared to the busier central areas. The hotel itself has a boutique, almost members’ club feel. The room was beautifully styled, clean, and very comfortable, with thoughtful details that made it feel both luxurious and homely. One of the standout features was the relaxed communal spaces and all-day refreshments—it’s such a nice touch to be able to grab a coffee or snack whenever you like. It really adds to the overall experience. Service was excellent throughout—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling over the top. If you’re planning a trip to Amsterdam and want to stay somewhere stylish, comfortable, and perfectly located for museums and parks, Jan Luyken is a fantastic choice. I’d definitely stay again."

"Great location for museums and in an historic building. Not to mandarin standard however - older property that’s been acquired from an other hotel operator and the renovation is ongoing. Had no heating in my first room. Lighting flickered in bathroom. Speakers in bathroom weren’t working. Housekeeping failed to attend turn down on first night. Hit and miss hotel going through transition. "
