Tropical gardens and riverside plazas beautify the riverbanks in this downtown district that hosts a range of friendly and entertaining activities.

Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale consists of a set of lively promenades running along both banks of the Tarpon River. It is the municipality’s epicenter, filled with a range of gardens and parks with scenic vistas of the water. Get a sense of Fort Lauderdale’s culture from the events and activities taking place on this eclectic river walk.

The walking area stretches along the curves of the river in the city center. Embark on the 1.5-mile (2.4-kilometer) path beside the river and take in the many sights. Join locals exercising at the varied workout units of Bubier Park. Sit with your feet dangling over the water at Cooley’s Landing Park or relax in Laura Ward Plaza, which has become a popular wedding location.

Bring gear to play sports and games in green and leafy Hardy Park. Smaller kids will love the children’s playground. Get around this downtown zone in style, by taking a water taxi east or west along the Tarpon River. As you speed along the waterway, admire the deluxe apartment complexes and estates flying by on both sides.

Esplanade Park is one of the main hubs for sports, games and fun events. Attend a performance of the monthly Sunday Jazz Brunch on three stages of Riverwalk Park. Meet locals and fellow visitors at the Riverwalk Summer Social event in August or the Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale Fall Festival in September. Spend time at the nearby Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Museum of Discover and Science.

To reach Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale, ride a bus to one of the stops dotted along the highway a couple blocks north of the waterway. You can also drive and leave your vehicle in one of the nearby parking lots. Make sure to see surrounding highlights such as the Historic Stranahan House Museum, the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale and Stranahan Park.
