Hit the slopes in Washington’s largest ski area and admire the striking views of nearby Mount Rainier.

Crystal Mountain Resort is Washington’s only major ski resort, offering great skiing and overnight accommodations. With its excellent terrain and wonderful scenery, the resort is a popular daytrip destination for residents of Seattle and Tacoma. Arrange a weekend visit to see the resort at its liveliest and busiest or go during the week if you prefer more peace and quiet to explore its 2,600 acres (1,050 hectares) of terrain.

The resort’s varied terrain includes an excellent mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced runs. Visit on a sunny day to see wonderful views of the Cascade Range, Mount Rainer and the valley below.

Ride the Mount Rainier Gondola, traveling up almost 2,500 feet (760 meters) from the base area to the mountain’s summit. Both skiers and foot passengers are welcome to ride the bright red gondola, which offers fantastic, 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains as well as the skiers and snowboarders descending the slopes below. At the top, stop for a snack or meal at Summit House restaurant while continuing to admire the views.

In the summer, take the gondola to the summit of Crystal Mountain and walk along one of the picturesque trails leading along the ridge or back down to the base area. Alternatively, begin at the base and hike up, exploring the streams, lakes and colorful meadows throughout the area as you go.

Don’t miss the resort’s guided snowshoe tours, which go up the Mt. Rainier Gondola.

Play the resort’s free 30-hole disc golf course. The traditional 18-basket “Lower Course” starts at the base area near the Discovery Chairlift, while the 12-basket “Summit Course” can be accessed by taking the gondola to the top of Crystal Mountain.

Crystal Mountain Resort is located on the northeastern corner of Mount Rainier National Park. Plan extra time into your trip to allow a visit to see the majestic mountain and colorful foliage of the national park. On weekends during ski season, regular buses depart from Seattle and Tacoma to Crystal Mountain.
