Baha'i Gardens Tours

Baha\'i Gardens
Elegant terraces and sculptures stand beside the colorful floral layouts and palm tree rows in the enormous Hanging Gardens of Haifa that commemorate the Báb.

The Bahá’í Gardens is the Haifa section of a set of parks spread across several Middle Eastern locations. A glorious shrine and monuments decorate its spectacular landscaped grounds, while its hilly peak provides views of the entire city. Admire the luminescent colors of the floral displays draping the hillside.

The gardens extend up about 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) of Mount Walk. Stroll along the 19 elegant terraces that link the immaculate lawns and lines of palm trees on the hill. Running downhill alongside the sets of steps and bridges are scenic streams of water, while fountains and ponds also grace the flanks.

Enjoy the absolute tranquility in these serene surroundings, which succeed in cutting off the noise and stress of the city center. Climb to the top of the grassy hill for unobstructed vistas of the city laid out before you.

At the top of the stairs, find the Shrine of the Báb, considered by many as the crowning jewel of Haifa. Marvel at its golden dome and embark on the free 50-minute Panorama Tour for additional context and history.

The shrine pays tribute to a prophet known as the Báb, who started the Bahá’í religion, before being executed just 6 years later. His remains are thought to lie within the shrine. Note that the terraces were designed in the late 1980s by Iranian architect Fariborz Sahba.

Generally, a tour in English is held at noon daily, except for Wednesdays and holy days. Check the Bahá’í Gardens official website for further information. When visiting the gardens and shrine, you are expected to dress appropriately, covered from shoulders to knees. Also wear shoes with grip and bring sun protection.

The Bahá’í Gardens is located in the Herzliya district, just north of the downtown part of Haifa. Drive here or take a bus to one of the stops near the entrance. The outer gardens are open from morning to early evening while the inner gardens and shrines are open from morning until noon.

While you’re in the area, stop at the Madatech Israel National Museum of Science, Technology and Space, the Haifa Museum of Art and the Louis Promenade.
