Our Japanese style room was a great experience with an amazing view of the mountain, river, and waterfalls. The half board dinner and breakfast were excellent meals and they accommodated our vegetarian diet (with advanced notice). And best of all the numerous hot spring options were so relaxing and amazing. Had we known it would be so great we would have stayed longer!!
We wish we could stay here longer. The bath was amazing (with 9 different indoor and outdoor pools), the Japanese-style room was a unique experience, and above all - the Japanese dinner was fantastic in both presentation, quantity, service and flavor.
Good value-for-money hotel. Super, friendly staff and food experience (you better arrive hungry as there many courses). The hot spring is unique and well organised.
The onsen facilities were quite impressive with many pools including outdoor mixed gender ones (until 9 or 10pm), where you put on their provided clothing. Outdoor onsen in cold dark night creates a beautiful atmosphere.
The dinner and then breakfast were excellent and unforgettable. We had our private dining room and there were lots of elaborate dishes. The wait staff were the epitome of Japanese gentleness.
This is a big hotel in Okuhida onsengo area, having amasing baths (onsen). We came for both the springs and the winter illumination experience and we had both. Loved it. The outdoor baths (shared) are great. We also tried hida meet as well as local hotel specialities, like turtle soup and caviar, highly recommended. I would love to come back one day.
Perfect dinner and a good service at the reception. Changing from a Japanese bedroom to a European bedroom solved with no discussion. Good connection with public busservice in front of the hotel.

I had high hopes for this hotel because of the onsen, so we booked three nights in a japanese-style room with half- board (breakfast and dinner).
First, this hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. You cannot walk to town or any restaurants outside of the hotel property. The closest town is Hirayu Onsen, which is a ten-minute bus ride. We should've stayed there instead. We've been traveling all over Japan for the past five weeks so we've stayed at several hotels before this one. This hotel is the worst so far. If I had to pick one main reason for my low rating, it would be the front desk staff, specifically the Japanese male manager. He was borderline rude. Did not speak a lick of English. The foreign workers are the nice ones. Here, the japanese service staff are surprisingly cold and unwelcoming. They gave us the impression that they do not like western tourists.
As I mentioned earlier, we pre--paid for the kaiseki breakfast and dinners. All but one (dinner on the second night) were huge disappointments. We should've just eaten in town, even with the inconvenience.
The Japanese-style rooms are subjective. I would never do it again. The tatami beds are just too hard on my back.
The onsen is nice. We tried all of them and found the ones outside (shared) were just too hot for us. I guess this is the only redeeming feature of this hotel, but you can also find a better hotel option in town (Hirayu Onsen) where you can walk to many restaurants and the bus station.
Decent hotel with nice forest with cascading river. The Onsen is excellent. However breakfast was disappointing, very basic and not worth

Really liked the Japaneese style hosting
A nice hotel that gives the real adventure of traditional Japanese style - sleeping, eating and usingt he onsen. We liked it though it was enough for two nights (more than that would be chalenging for western family with kids)
Good stay at the hotel. The Japanese rooms were amazing and we had a great vegetarian kaiseki dinner and really enjoyed the onsens. Would defintely recommend staying at this hotel.
Only issue is transport to the location is a bit difficult if you don't have a car. We were aware of this and messaged ahead to ask about the availability of the hotel shuttle bus to the bus stop for our departure. Unfortunately, when we arrived the receptionist was unaware they had a shuttle bus and was very unwilling to check the information we were given or even help us sort out alternative travel. It led to a bit of a concerning situation for our travel plans before another staff memeber corrected her and arranged our transport.
The staff provided excellent service. The hot springs were beautiful and relaxing. Both the dinner and breakfast meals were plentiful, served in a nice semi-private setting, and offered items that were unique.
My only complaint is that there was an unpleasant smell in the area. I believe may have been sulphur from the hot springs. It was not only at the property, but also at other places we visited in the area.
Hotel was good, about 10 minutes drive to the bus station to Kamikochi. The osen is probably the best feature of the hotel. Breakfast was disappointing compare to other Japanese styled hotel we been at. We booked the room with breakfast and was given a western style breakfast, we wanted the Japanese breakfast but couldn't communicate due to language barrier. One other downside was the wifi, never worked for us during our stay. The wifi was not password protected but none of our mobile devices were able to join. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel.
We stayed here as a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids - 10, 6 and 4) in the traditional Japanese room. We didn't get in till 6ish and left early so we could get to Kamikochi but I wish we had of added another night or at least got there at check in time to make the most of the facilities.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to use the onsen.
The traditional room is set up for tea when you arrive and then the staff comes back later to make the beds for you. The kids loved the experience. We were also able to wear the yukata to dinner. You can call down for kids ones to be brought up.
Staff were lovely. We hadn't booked a food package as I have picky eaters but we went to the dining area on level 1 and were able to order a Japanese set meal for my husband and I and the kids had chicken nuggets, spaghetti and ice-cream.
Highly recommend
