highly not recommended. bad hotel

bad experience, if you want to have a really bad experience, go to that hotel. only fan with hot, stuffy air in room. air conditioning downstairs so hot, carbon dioxide in room. cannot live at all. I move out immediately and still charge me 2 nights. Really bad , bad experience. Good luck if you go

The hotel is located in the busy The Rocks area. This old hotel is well maintained. We stayed overnight to catch a cruise ship and the location was perfect. We used the back exit down the alley to The Nurses Walk for a smoother route to the ship. If you are traveling with lots of luggage ask for a room without stairs. There are lots of stairs as the rooms are split on half levels and down little hallways. Our room was #16 and the lift took us to the 2nd floor and it was just down the hall, same level. There is no air conditioning and it can get quite warm. The overhead ceiling fan helped a great deal. Breakfast was included with our room and it was plentiful, delicious and there were good selections. Service was excellent.

We greatly appreciated our stay. Staff was wonderful. Location was wonderful. The ladies and the gentleman that worked at the front desk were all extremely helpful. The room we had was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for our stay. Also the included breakfast was very good and the staff working there were also very nice. If we come back to Sidney we would come back to this hôtel.

The employees of this hotel are stellar examples of what we expect the behavior to be from top rate hotels. They were accomodating, friendly and knowledgable! I wish I was treated half as good at other places I've stayed! The hotel was clean and quaint, but had a lot of stairs on every level. The restaurant was worth breakfast.

Gorgeous boutique hotel. The executive room provided great space, fantastic bedding, a view of the harbor, and private bath. The location is perfect and walkable to several shops, taverns, and restaurants. Definitely recommended and would stay again.

The property is part of the oldest pub in Sydney so that should tell you something. We made the mistake of booking a room with a shared bath and that was a terrible mistake on our part. That said, the bathroom was small and they left the window wide open to a brick wall with no screen. Bugs? The shower curtain was too long and thus was dirty at the bottom. The toilet seat was about to fall off and we ran out of toilet paper. Not sure how many people were using the bathroom, but it was like being back in college. The location is ideal and we walked to the cruise ship in 5 minutes and there is lots to see and do around the hotel. The room itself was nice and the AC worked well. Just expect an older property.

We booked this hotel for our pre and post cruise travel. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The hotel was within walking distance to restaurants and attractions. Both rooms were clean and the AC and fan were working well. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. If we ever come back to Sydney we would book the Russell again.

I had wanted to stay here for a very long time. The design of the hotel with the various half-flight stairs, does not lend itself to 75 year old knees.The location, however, and furnishings were great. What was not great was finding out two days before our arrival that a Basic rooom means no bathroom facilities. This is very unusual in this day and age and should be made more clear at the time of booking.

A lovely hotel in a great location. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I stayed in room 9, which was a very large room just for 1 person. The room was clean, beautifully decorated and had great views. The only downside was it wasn't en-suite, but there were 3 shared bathrooms close by to this room. Breakfast in the morning was in the bistro downstairs. There was plenty of seating, the staff were friendly and the breakfast selection was great (I enjoyed the big breakfast). I would stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.
