South Bronx and its attractions for beach lovers

While the South Bronx is primarily known for its vibrant culture and urban landscape, it may not offer traditional beach experiences, but nearby attractions can still appeal to beach lovers. For instance, a short drive or subway ride can take you to Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park, renowned for its beautiful sandy shore and family-friendly atmosphere. Here, you can enjoy a day of sunbathing, swimming, and picnicking with your children amidst the backdrop of stunning waterfront views. For those interested in adventure, the Bronx River offers kayaking opportunities for a unique perspective of the area while you paddle through lush surroundings. Another exciting option is the nearby City Island, a quaint seaside enclave that boasts charming seafood restaurants and a relaxed, beachy vibe—perfect for a family outing. After a day of exploration, return to the South Bronx where you can find boutique hotels that provide a touch of luxury and personalized service, ensuring your family feels pampered. With easy access to both urban amenities and coastal getaways, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Hotel Edison Times Square

8/10 Good
"The staff was welcoming. We left bags with the bellhop for a fee of $1 per bag. Location is great, you can exit on either side of the block. The room was a decent size for NYC. Beds were queen size and comfortable. No fridge or microwave in the room but there was ice nearby on our floor. AC did not work well and we were never cool. I sat in the lobby of our floor one morning to not wake my family and the lobby was hot too. Wifi also was not great. I had work to do and had to use my phone hotspot because the wifi would not stay connected. Shower is fine but bathrooms are super small. The toilet faces the sink. Very little room if you need to get dressed in the bathroom. Never waited too long for an elevator. Due to the size of the hotel, there are a lot of people and it is always busy/crowded in the lobby. Hotel offers free daily walking tours and also has a wine happy hour a couple of evenings. We were given complimentary water, chips, a chocolate bar and a bottle of wine. Housekeeping was good and room/property is clean. The breakfast options are good. You can choose grab and go in the building or walk down the block to eat at Carve, where you get a small menu with about 10 choices that are then made fresh, and you can redeem there until 3:00. I would stay again if I could afford a room with a bigger bathroom, or if I could leave the restroom door open based on who I'm traveling with. Also would only stay during colder months when I'm not dependent on air conditioning."
