I went here with my boyfriend for an anniversary/birthday trip and overall it was lovely but there are a few important things to note.
Highlights include:
- Beautiful private beach area
- Spacious pool with swim up bar
- Large hotel rooms with daily room service
- Delicious food with lots of variety
- A lot of activities and excursions available
- Great, attentive staff and service
Things to be aware of:
- Difficult to navigate conversation with staff members if you do not speak Spanish, having at least 1 Spanish speaker in the group would be helpful
- Moments of over-crowdedness which can make service difficult to receive, this didn't happen too often - most of the staff is attentive and great, but others will ignore you if you don't leave large tips
- There's no elevator so prepare to climb several stairs if you get a room on the top floor
- Some restaurants on the resort will require you to wear long pants if you're a man, a bit of an odd rule for a country that is often over 85 degrees. Make sure you bring at least 1 pair of long pants, my boyfriend had to buy some from the gift shop for $80 USD just to have dinner !
- There is an overwhelming amount of vendors trying to get you to buy excursions, souvenirs, etc. We spent about $600 USD in excursions, pictures, and trinkets. If you have a budget, try leaving your cards in the hotel room, and only bring what you plan to spend in cash. They will hustle you!
