I requested a room upgrade PRIOR to arriving at the hotel. In fact, Expedia contacted me inquire if I would like to upgrade my room and I therefore I completed the request to do so. When I checked in, I inquired again about the upgrade and was told “the oceanfront rooms need to be inspected by a supervisor before you can see them and we don’t have any ready at this time”. I was told this in several occasions. Finally, the night before my last night, someone knocks on the door to show us the room. I do understand that upgrades are provided based on availability, however saying you don’t have a room inspected is complete nonsense and is very different than the rooms not being available because they are occupied by other guests. Aside from that and the fact that you have to rent a refrigerator, the hotel was great.
