There was a gap at the bottom and along the side of the door through which we could feel a cold breeze. All the furniture was beaten up and stained, the bedding had cigarette wholes, the drywall in the bathroom was crumbling, the smoke alarm had been removed, the smell was disgusting. If we were not desperate for a place to stay we would have left.」
