I visited Detroit for the first time and stayed at Hotel Houze for a long weekend. I’ll start with the staff, they were kind! The hotel is an old building, therefore if you go in the winter months the rooms are extremely cold. The staff were aware and provided me with a space heater! It was really cold. Next, they were short staffed in the cleaning department. At one point not having house keeping at all. I stayed for 3 nights. When I checked in the bottom of my toilet had dried up pee. The room was clean, bed was made (I hope sheets clean) lol Sheets showed no visible dirt, but definitely not freshly white. As far as the area. There were many many homeless people having out and asking for money when u walk out. No parking on site, a garage across th street ($30/night) The staff was kind. The room had a washer, dryer, full kitchen, I didnt use any of that, but very convenient. The worst part was the cold, but again, the staff acknowledged th issue and tried to help with the space heater.

Asked for a refund, we checked in at 5 and made a complaint about 20 minutes later about the cleanliness and quality of the service. The place wasn’t cleaned before checking in. We had to wait 30-1hr to be finally checked in.

This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in. The floors, sheets, and bathroom were disgraceful. I had my room switched 4 times and sheets changed twice and it was horrible. I even had my room cleaned by the housekeeping manager and it was still disgusting. I was promised to tay another night and the General Manager would make sure my stay would be better and he would make sure of it if I gave them another chance. I canceled my room at the Westin across the street and my room was upgraded to a cold and dirty mattress with urine stains all over it and dirty sheets!!! Really???

The stay ok, but i initially was put in a room that wasn't ready. First impressions are everything and it didn't go as expected. Then i had a draft in my window, the gentleman who came to check on my window was awesome, but he was only able to seal some of the draft /wind due to the windows inability to fully close. The manager was great in switching my room but the window issue and the heater was rusted and not pleasant to look at. All that being said i made it work to be a pain to your awesome staff

Staff was really pleasant and helpful. We did the King Apartment for 1 night. Liked that it was close to everything. Room was clean. Liked that they provide tea and coffee but wish there was a somewhere to refill water bottles.

The room was in ok condition. Lots of small problems like, the dishes weren’t put away, there was still water and coffee in the machine, the towels have bleach stains on them, etc…There was a problem with the mini split unit that was not able to be resolved during my stay. The gentleman at the front desk offered to get us a replacement room but unfortunately no other rooms were available. Also, the television did not have the Roku hdmi thing to watch tv. This took a couple hours for them to find a spare one. I had to reach out via text without replies quite a few times. Only calling them got the attention. Apparently many other people had the same problem that night. I think the staff was very professional and were doing the best they could with what they have. The place is just cheap. Must be owned by a cheap conglomerate that is aimed at the highest profit for the lowest price. The location was nice, and overall, the layout of the room was also nice. But I can’t express enough that it just all feels so cheap.

As a solo traveler it is very unfortunate that they don’t hold your luggage for you.. also there was a old pizza box in my fridge and dirty cup filled with lipgloss stains.. when I told the front desk he kind of was dismissive about it and said like otherwise was everything else ok. The night staff were very friendly and helpful though. Just a heads up for those traveling this was my first time in Detroit.

BEWARE - Pictures on website are not representative of the true experience. Finding this place was difficult as there is only a 2x4 plastic sign right outside of the door, which was initially blocked by a group of people hanging around outside. No on-site parking - have to park across the street in overnight parking lot ($35). Check-in was quick but immediately upon entering it was clear it was going to be an “experience”. Exiting the elevator to our floor we were immediately met with a strong smell of marijuana. Entering our room, it was clean but very cheap furniture. A plastic 3-tier organizer was the only thing in the bathroom for belongings. Towels and sheets had marks on them. Shower curtain had stains at the bottom. Shower was low pressure and cold. Coffee maker had not been cleaned out. For $350 for a single night I was incredibly disappointed. Would not recommend for Families or single women. It did not feel safe.
